Kwik Sew 3632 = Cute Dress For Me

I want to sew more for me, but it is so hard to make stuff I like! I have wasted too much time and money on fabric and patterns that aren't flattering.  Being slightly chubby doesn't make it any easier.

I made a dress yesterday that I am fairly happy with. I used Kwik Sew 3632 and some knit fabric I found on fabric.com.  I have to say that I am in love with this fabric!  The line is called "The Style Studio" and it is their stretch rayon jersey knit.  I checked back at fabric.com's website and saw that they have several other prints that I like in this same line.  Yea!  I will be ordering a few additional prints so I can make another dress or two.  If you like an easy care knit for yourself, I recommend this fabric.  It is so soft, lightweight and not sheer at all.

I have had this pattern in my stash since last year.  I bought it so I could try to duplicate one of my favorite dresses that I wear all the time.  It came close.  To make it better, I think I need to find a simple peasant dress pattern that has separate sleeves.  This one had the the sleeves already connected to the dress.  If anyone can recommend one to me, I would be very grateful...

I tried and tried to get a good picture of myself in the mirror.  That is so hard to do!  I don't have a full length mirror in the house and I have to look through the lens of my Nikon, so that makes it very awkward!  Luckily, my husband got this shot of me and my little princess when we went to her preschool program.

I did make a muslin of this pattern.  I did not want to cut into the fabric unless I was sure I liked the dress.  I kind of like how it looks in a cotton fabric, so I may have to try it in a cotton sometime.

(My bathroom is a work in progress...  If it ever gets finished,
I will  dedicate an entire post to the photos.)

The only modifications I made were to shirr the around the arms and waist instead of making casings.  This pattern was a very quick and easy project!

  12. Hello, I love your site and am a very beginner at sewing. I tried to find that pattern and its no longer available? Is there a website of patterns that would be easy to use? And I checked out fabrics.com, is 7-8 dollars (on sale) a normal price for fabric? I thought it would be cheaper to make my own…but not sure. Thanks for any info!
