Over 50 million Americans don’t know from where their next meal will come. (That is one in six Americans.) I had no idea the number was so high.
In support of Hunger Action Month this September, Walmart will work with customers, suppliers and associates nationwide to donate up to 53 million meals to Feeding America and give $2.5 million for hunger relief.
Through October 12th, we can help generate meal donations for Feeding America by purchasing select products from participating food suppliers (General Mills, Kelloggs, Unilever, Kraft Foods, and ConAgra Foods) at Walmart stores and following instructions on the packages. Just look for the “Fighting Hunger Together” signs to get started.
I already shop at Walmart for my weekly groceries and it makes me happy to see Walmart contributing this way. (Walmart and the Walmart Foundation committed $2 billion in cash and in-kind donations to fight domestic hunger through 2015.) I can easily contribute by continuing to purchase my favorite Kelloggs cereal and kraft brand foods.
Visit the Fighting Hunger Together page online and generate additional meal donations for Feeding America just by watching videos and taking surveys. There is even a mobile app!
We all know the economy has been slow to recover, many local food banks ares struggling to feed the needy. The good news is, through the Golden Spark promotion Walmart will also giving $50K to one lucky community!
Walmart will randomly award 40 “Golden Sparks” valued at $50,000 each to people who participate in the Fighting Hunger Together Golden Spark promotion. The winners will choose a community to receive the funding to start or expand a backpack program that will provide vital meals to children in need when they do not have access to free-and reduced-price school meals.
