This Delicious Homemade Maraschino Cherry Recipe is so easy, yummy and perfect for drinks and toppings, you’ll never want to use the store bought stuff again!
I love kitchen gadgets! One we use quite often is the Sodastream I bought last year. (I just looked it up on Amazon and the Sodastream is on sale for $54.99 right now.) I absolutely love it for making homemade soda. I don’t particularly care for the Sodastream brand beverage flavors, though I did notice they have a new line of “Naturals” that I am interested in trying.
For the most part, to flavor my soda, I use homemade syrup or fresh fruit. (Sometimes for myself I’ll use the flavored water enhancers.) Hands down, my favorite addition to our drinks is this Homemade Maraschino Cherry Syrup!
It’s so easy to make. A couple of ingredients and a few minutes over the stove will reward you with these yummy homemade maraschino cherries and delicious syrup. (This cherry pitter is next on my kitchen gadget wish list!)
Of course, the kiddos love it too. (Add ginger ale and a squirt of lime juice and you have a homemade Shirley Temple!)
Homemade Maraschino Cherries in Syrup
- 1/2 cup pomegranate or cherry juice (whatever is easier to find)
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- fresh orange zest (use carrot peeler and cut a couple of strips)
- 1 pound of pitted fresh or frozen cherries (I use frozen)
To make a Cherry Soda, add ice to glass, spoon a couple of cherries over ice and a few tablespoonfuls of cherry syrup. (To taste.) Top with your favorite Soda.
Tip: If you want a thicker syrup to use for toppings, add a half teaspoon of cornstarch right before the mixture begins to boil (diluting it in a bit of water 1st) the mixture and mash a few of the cherries.
