Wow, it’s 10:00, I am worn out and have a little headache! I have been working on my craft room for what seems like all day long. It was probably only about 6 hours, but spread out over the whole day.
I am not the neatest person, never have been, probably never will. But I do like a clean house, so while the main areas stay clean, the rooms on the fringe just absorb all the clutter.
Like my craft room… Between all the toys, crayons, coloring books, blank paper, clothes and shoes my kids drag in here and all the misc paperwork that gets “set aside” in here and my crafting, sewing, menu planning, bill paying and Internet browsing, this place was a disaster!
I have been contemplating a new furniture layout for a while. We don’t have any extra money right now for anything new, so I am just using extra furniture pieces, folding tables and wire shelving that didn’t work anywhere else in our new house. The room shape is very awkward, kind of like this:
I got it mostly cleaned during the day and when my husband got home, we fiddled with furniture placement for over an hour.
Certain things were important, I needed a good cutting area, and place for my laptop that wasn’t too boxed in and I needed my sewing machine and serger to be in a L-shape. That way I would not have to move my chair to switch back and forth. My mother also has an embroidery machine that she wants to leave here to use when she visits. 🙂
I also have a ton of scrap booking stuff in the closet. I am not really doing much scrap booking now, but I do still make cards and use some of the paper and other supplies for other projects, so I wanted to keep frequently used stuff in an accessible place.
Anyway, I think this is about as good as it is can be, with the exception of adding some pretty wall decor…
Here is the before (I actually took these in early march, so the room was in even worse shape. My kids kept getting in to my scrapbook punches and were leaving little paper shapes everywhere. I finally had to put them away on a top shelf in the closet.)
Here is the after:
I definitely like this new layout much better, makes the room seem so much bigger! Maybe tomorrow, I’ll get around to finishing those shorts for my son over there on my cutting mat. Also, I didn’t change the paint color, the second set was taken at night with the flash and the first was taken during the day with sunlight.
Off to bed for me! Oh yeah, and my headache is gone, nothing that a little root beer float won’t cure…
