Kimono Swimsuit Pattern
- Pattern (download it here == >> Kimono Cover Up
- 2 yard of lightweight, drapey fabric. (Recommended fabrics: machine washable rayon, gauze, polyester chiffon, or a light weight knit)
- 2 yards trim
- basic sewing supplies
Pattern info and tips:
-Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance unless otherwise stated
-Download and save the pattern to your computer, open with adobe reader, turn off all scaling and print. (Do not print directly from Google Docs.)
-If using knit fabric, use a ball point needle
Step 1: Print and assemble pattern, cut fabric pieces.
Print and assemble pattern.
Lengthen or shorten pattern if desired.
Back piece is cut on fold. For the front piece, fold fabric in half, to cut 2 pieces at once, but not on fold. (This way you will have 2 separate pieces that are cut in opposite directions.)
Cut out pattern pieces, transferring the “stop sewing” mark on side.
Step 2: Cover up assembly.
Fold neckline edge and hem with a narrow 1/4 inch seam allowance
Repeat for the sleeve edges.
Repeat for the inside cover up edge:
Line up the shoulders seams. Pin and sew together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance Finish this seam.
Line up the side seams and sew down to the “stop sewing” mark.
Fold the vent hem a scant 1/4 inch, press. Fold another scant 1/4 inch, press again and sew. Be sure to finish the side seams with your favorite seam finishing method.
Fold the bottom hem 1/4 inch, press, fold another 1/4 inch, press again and sew.
Add trip along the bottom if desired.
That’s it! You are done!
