Here is a little sneak peak of my latest project…
I finished two and had hoped to finish the other two this evening and have them hung for some before and after pictures. That just didn’t happen!
I stopped sewing to make dinner, and at about 5:15, I got a text from my husband that said there was a “little fire” near our house. I went to all the local news websites and Facebook pages saw the city was evacuating a few areas and that included parts of my neighborhood.
I went outside and was shocked at the amount of smoke. Our neighborhood is very large and I wasn’t sure if we were included in the evacuation. I tried calling the police department, but couldn’t get an answer, so I called 911. The dispatcher asked what part of the neighborhood I was in. He said we were not included in the mandatory evacuation yet, but that I should start packing.
I went outside again to see a lot of ash blowing around and when I looked up, I saw at least 12 hawks circling around. I guess they were looking for small animals fleeing the fire… That is when I really got scared!
We got some clothing and important items packed up very quickly and ready by the door. Luckily the high winds we had been having were starting to die down and they had the fire contained within a few hours so we didn’t have to leave our home.
It is amazing the amount of information and updates I was able to get from twitter and Facebook, I am very grateful for these tools…
Oh, and the cherry on top for the evening? About 20 minutes after putting the kids to bed, my 6 year old started screaming and crying. Why? He swallowed a Lego! Of course!
My prayers to the 13 families in Leander that lost their homes,
The 45 destroyed and damaged in Steiner Ranch,
And the 476 homes destroyed in Bastrop county
