Description

Made with crisp fall apples, sugar, cinnamon, and a homemade pie crust, this Easy Apple Galette is as tasty as apple pie, but with half the work!


Ingredients

  • 3 apples
  • 2 1/2 cups of plain flour
  • 2/3 cup of ice cold water
  • 2/3 cup of oil
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • optional: egg white and turbinado sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and half of the sugar. Then, add the oil to the dry ingredients. Use a fork or pastry blender until the ingredients resemble pea-size clumps. Add cold water and form а soft dough. Form a ball and refrigerate the dough for about an hour.
  3. Slice the apples into 1/8-inch slices. Add them to a medium bowl and toss them with lemon juice. Then, add the remaining sugar and cinnamon and toss to coat.
  4. Roll the dough into a circle on your baking sheet. Arrange apples in the center of the circle, and fold the edges over the apples.
  5. Optional step: Create an egg wash (one egg white plus one tbsp water, beaten with a fork) and brush over the edges of the crust. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  6. Bake until golden brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Serve with your desired topping, and enjoy!
