Welcome new readers!
I’m so happy you’ve stopped by for a visit.
My name is Jamie, and I’m a wife and Mom of two, located in the heart of Texas.
I have always considered myself “crafty. ” That includes cooking, sewing, crafting, creating digitally, and photography.
My “crafty” interest really started with a hot glue gun! As a young teenager, I worked at a souvenir shop on the Texas Gulf Coast. The shop sold all sorts of beach-themed souvenirs, including handmade jewelry and accessories made from seashells. (Many of which were made by, you guessed it, me! And my boss, of course, she was the real crafty genius.)
My love of all things domestic really took hold at nineteen, when I became a nanny. The mom I worked for handed me an old Weight Watchers cookbook, set up a checking account in my name, and told me to plan the menus, shop, and cook their dinners from that cookbook. She also started me on my sewing journey, teaching me how to hem my pants and shorts (by hand) using a needle, thread, sewing gauge, and an iron. (I’m short, so I hemmed basically everything.)
After college, I bought myself a sewing machine and took a few classes at my local sewing shop. (Sew Much More – They are still there and still have sewing classes!)
I started Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom in 2011 when I began sewing for my two children. I had a love of matching boy/girl outfits, and back then, outfits like that were fairly expensive or had to be custom-made. I should also admit I was also into matching mother/daughter outfits.
Of course, being a proud mom, I frequently would show off my sewing creations on Facebook. After a few years of this, I worried I was annoying my friends with so many photos, so I started a blog, Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom!
And now, this is my little spot on the web where I share my love of creating- from free sewing patterns, tutorials, and projects to simple crafts and family-friendly recipes.
It’s my hope that some of what I share helps to inspire others to sew, cook, and create!
Be sure to check out what goes on behind the scenes over on my Instagram page or see all the fun stuff I’m sharing on Facebook!
If you are looking for a way to show off what you’ve made with one of my sewing patterns or tutorials, I have a private Facebook group created for just that purpose. (Request to join the group here.)
