Today, I'm sharing how to make these adorable heart shaped cupcakes!
Lost her first tooth:
And got her ears pierced:
(This is the happy "after" photo... The actual ear piercing did not quite go as smoothly as I imagined it would- I was afraid we might end up with just one pierced ear.)
Her birthday always falls during the Christmas Break, but I still bring treats to school after the holidays. (I've had her in preschool/MDO since she was 2.) This year was no exception. I asked her what she would like for me to bring to class and she wanted strawberry cupcakes!
The cupcakes aren't made with any special recipe, just strawberry cake mix from the box and icing that you buy the separate flavor for. I did add just a tiny bit more pink food coloring to the icing for a little extra pop.
Some of my cupcake liners were a little flattened out and as I pushed them them in the muffin tin, they crinkled up on one side and made a little heart shape. I remembered seeing an article showing you to add a marble to your muffin tin to make heart cupcakes. I knew she would love it if I brought heart shaped cupcakes to class!
I didn't have marbles, but I did have a bag of decorative glass ovals. (The kind you see in floral arrangements and fish bowls.)
I dropped 1 to 2 of the glass ovals in to each tin, popped them into the oven for 25 minutes, and wah-la!
Strawberry Heart Shaped Cupcakes!
My one tip for making these cupcakes is to make sure not to over-fill the cupcake liners, no more than 2/3's full. The ones that were overfilled puffed up too much and lost a lot of the heart shape.
They really turned out cute. She loved them and so did all her little classmates!
I'd love to know what some of your little one's most requested treats are, be sure to leave me a comment with recipe links if you have one!
