I grew up in a small town (I mean really small – 19 people in my High School graduating class!) There so many positives aspects about living in a small town; you don’t need a vehicle to get around, everybody knows everybody (that can be both good and bad, lol) and students can participate in any school sport or activity with no tryouts needed. The only real downside is the lack of places to go for entertainment and shopping. If we wanted to go to the movies, bowling, shop at a mall or big grocery store we had to drive 45 minutes to the neighboring big city. Which means we rarely saw movies at the theater and either bought or rented movies and had family movie nights.
We live in a big city now and before having kids, hubby and I both loved watching movies in the theater. Our movie-going habits have transformed a bit over the last few years. We still love to go to the movies, and when my parents come for a visit (free babysitting!), we’ll sometimes squeeze in two trips to the theater. But for the most part, we’re now back to having family movie nights again and building our collection of DVD and Blu-ray movies.
One of the family movies we’ve all been looking forward to, is the release of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, SING on Blu-ray & Digital HD. (I came out on March 21, 2017 and I’ve already grabbed a copy for this week’s movie night!)
In case you are not familiar with the movie, SING follows the journey of Buster Moon and his attempt to save his theater that has fallen on hard times. To save the theater, Buster creates the world’s greatest singing competition. Five talented contestants emerge and the journey of Moon and his five lead contestants is an amazingly fun and entertaining story. The characters are voiced by stars such as Mathew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Seth MacFarlane and more. SING features over 65 hit songs, so if you love singing along with the radio, you’ll definitely enjoy this movie.
We love our crafting time around here and to get everyone hyped for this week’s special family movie night, the kids and I made theses easy finger puppets and hosted our own singing competition! (Silly voices included) We could not stop laughing!
The finger puppets turned out so great and I’m even happier to see that the kids are still playing with them and have been making their own “movies” with their tablets.
To make these finger puppets even easier for you to recreate, I saved the templates as a pdf and made it available for you to download. (You’ll find the file in the materials needed list.)
Scholastic and Universal have specially created a site filled with SING-inspired activities such as How to Throw the Ultimate Rock Star Party, What Kind of Star is Your Child Destined to Be? Quiz, and videos including Microphone Cake Pops and a Costume Storage Crate.

How to make Felt Finger Puppets
- Felt (various colors)
- Glue (we actually used a low temp hot glue gun)
Trace template shapes onto the back of the felt and cut out.
Add glue around the edge of one finger puppet shape and press a second shape on top.
Add nose and eyes.
Use a marker and scrap felt to add details. (Template includes inner ear pieces for koala and elephant.)
Allow puppet to dry and you’re done!
Now, it’s your turn! Have you seen Universal’s, SING yet? What craft are you inspired to make?
