Besides the change in weather and the influx of pumpkin-flavored everything in every single store and restaurant, there is another sure sign of fall in the United States – football.
The past month and the next few months are a football-lovers paradise. High school games on Friday, college games on Saturday, and NFL games on Sunday and Monday. (Maybe a few other days too – I, myself, don’t pay too much attention to football in general, but my hubby and son are both football fanatics.)
There’s no question; my guys are definitely sports fans, and they love watching the games – though I’m not actually sure which they like more, the games themselves or the fact that the weekend games give them an opportunity to have friends over for fun and socializing! Even though my Missy is not the biggest football fan, she loves game days too because most of our near-by friends have children of the same age, so when my hubbies buddies come over to watch the game, they bring their kids too, and it turns into a fun playdate for everyone
I love having friends over too, but it’s generally a last minute thing, which isn’t my favorite because game day gatherings require a lot of cleaning and food preparation in a short amount of time. Just this last weekend, hubby decided he wanted to invite a few friends for the Big Saturday college game. I told him that was perfectly okay with me, as long as he did the cleaning and I would head to the store to load up on our favorite game day snacks.
A few of our favorite game day snacks:
Lit’l Smokies and cheddar cheese sticks – these are so easy! Just put a chunk of cheddar cheese and one of the cocktail links on a toothpick and you have the easiest, tastiest cocktail appetizer ever.
Tyson Any’tizers: they’re just so easy to make! Toss them in the oven or microwave and then serve with your favorite blue cheese dipping sauce and celery and you’re ready to go. (I often make buffalo wings in the pressure cooker when it’s just the family- but they’re very messy- The Tyson Any’tizersare practically mess-free!)
Pulled Pork Sliders – Pork sliders are one of those appetizers that make it look like you spent a lot of time cooking but really they reaaly just take a few minutes of prep to make them in the slow cooker. (or skip the pep and use the Ball Park® Frozen Pulled Pork.)!
One of the family’s favorite game day appetizers are these easy to make Sausage Balls!
How to Make Sausage Balls:
All you need to do is mix together 1lb of the Jimmy Dean Roll Sausage with a couple other ingredients and they’re the best! (Recipe and instructions at the bottom of the post.)
Our guests – big and little – love these appetizers. (I suspect that’s why our house often becomes the Game Day hangout, lol!) All of the ingredients can easily be picked up at your local Walmart, in the freezer section.
