It’s no secret, my little missy loves cats and kittens.  She draws them all the time, Too Cute is her favorite show and she loves to wear anything with a cat on it!

I’ve been rearranging my craft room a bit and came across this unfinished flutter sleeve top.  I had cut the t-shirt out back in April to test the flutter sleeve on my flutter sleeve pattern.  The t-shirt needed a neck binding and to be hemmed.  This girl has been growing like a weed, so I figured I better get this top done before she outgrows it!  (The only thing I did differently on this shirt was to change the way I applied the neck binding.  Instead of adding a ribbed binding, I did a facing style binding as shown in my Asymmetrical Poncho pattern/tutorial.)

The grey stripes were a bit bland for a top and she probably wouldn’t wear it without some sort of embellishment.  I’d seen this little sweatshirt over at Gymboree and knew something similar would be perfect on the shirt.  I considered trying to re-create it on my sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch, but I did not have any stabilizer to keep the knit from stretching, so I went with the next best thing – fabric paint!  (I have already washed the shirt btw, and the fabric paint held up fabulously!)

  • I drew the image using Photoshop Elements and imported it into my Silhouette Design Studio software to cut out the stencil. (I almost cut it out by hand, but this is the exact reason I bought the Silhouette! The next purchase on my list is this heat transfer starter kit.)

Thank you so much for your kitty face svg file. I am trying to learn how to digitize. Svg is easier.
