Moving away from the beige walls and warm-toned decor themes?  If so, today’s post is for you!  It’s full of Blue and Teal Guest Room Ideas to help inspire you on your home decor/makeover journey!

This post is sponsored by The Home Depot, but all opinions are 100% mine.

If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been building a new house for the last 10 months or so. (We are the contractor/builder.) The house is just about done and we’ve actually moved in (yay!) although there are still few items left to be done. It’s never an ideal situation to move in before everything is complete because once you move in; all the work just slows down. (boo!)

Normally, I would say, now the fun part begins. (Shopping for furniture and accessories.) But truthfully, the fun part has been going on for the entire time we have been building the house, as I am the Queen of online browsing and shopping.

When we sold our house almost 2 years ago we had a garage sale and got rid of a ton of furniture. The guest room was one of the rooms that I sold everything from – furniture, decor, all of it.  I wasn’t sure what my new style would be, but I knew it wouldn’t be based on the super old and dated the furniture, bedding and décor that was in that room at the time. (A heavy wood sleigh bed and the decor was stuff I purchased in the late 90’s.  So yes, it all had to go.)

So far, this is what I’ve done in the guest room. (Wall color SW Agreeable Gray.)

Guest Bedroom Decor and Inspiration

Yes, a new headboard and bedding is what I’ve managed!

When thinking about the type of bed I wanted for this room, I knew I wanted something upholstered and in a blue, green or gray color.  Since I was going the upholstered route, I wanted a headboard only – no upholstered bed frame. (I have an upholstered bed in my room that I love, but I’ve noticed that you have to take care that you don’t rest dirty feet or shoes on the rail as it is very easy to stain and I did not want to have to worry about this in the guest room.)

I’ve been browsing a ton on line for furniture over the last several months and you may or may not guess what retailer has been coming up in my searches over and over…

The Home Depot!

Yes, The Home Depot has entered the Home Decor Market and based on what I’ve seen from my recent online browsing and purchases, they are set to become the total home solutions retailer!

I just love the headboard I settled on. (see it here).  The Home Depot has thousands of on-trend products available online to fit your style and complete your project, so you can design your home from top to bottom in the style that is right for you!

Rugs? They have over 47,000 options. Dining Room tables? Almost 1000 to choose from!  (Check out this table from The Home Depot – it looks just like mine, but significantly less $$.) Beds and headboards? Over 3200 options.  Wall Art? Over 100,000.  Everything from bedding to kitchen decor and even window treatments at every day low prices.  (They even frequently have sales and promo events.  I was able to pick up all my bedding during a recent 15% off bedding promo event. White coverlet, navy quilt set.  I still need a bed skirt, but I am undecided on white or navy.)

I really do the majority of my shopping online now.  You just can’t beat the convenience of having something delivered directly to your door.  The Home Depot offers free shipping over $45 or if you have a store near you, you can get free delivery to the store for pick up.  And the absolute best part is if you end up returning, you don’t have to ship your item back, you can RETURN IT TO THE STORE!!!

I had hoped to have my guest room done already, but it turns out the window in this room is not to code.  It was installed about 4 inches too high, (All windows have to be 44 inches or less from the floor) so we have another window on order that is slightly longer and will have to cut through the stucco and sheetrock to get it installed.  That’s going to be a huge mess, so I have will wait to add any more furniture and decor to the room.

While I am waiting for the window to be replaced, I am trying to narrow down my options for 2 side tables, some artwork for above the bed and a small chair and side table to go under the window.

I’ve got the side tables narrowed down to my top 6 choices (grey, white or teal, all under $135 and I included small side tables and nightstands in my search – there were 500 results to look at.)

Guest room Decor ideas (bedside table options)

 1. Toby White Storage End Table  2. American Heritage Round White End Table 3.  Safavieh Marilyn Teal Storage End Table 4. Night Owl White Nightstand with USB Port  5.  Safavieh Joe French Grey Storage End Table  6.  Yaletown 2-Drawer White Nightstand

I also want to add a small armchair under the window (I outlined the new size in red and the curtains will be wall color.)   I’ve picked a few chairs that are all around 30″ by 30″ or less:

I’ve narrowed it down to these six.  The chairs are all less than 28 inches wide, so nice and small.  I might add a very narrow side table as well, but I’ll wait on that and make sure the room is not too cluttered first.  Which is your favorite chair for the space? (prices range from $150 to $295)

 1. Carlotta Griege Cotton Arm Chair  2. Safavieh Esther Taupe/Pickled Oak Linen Arm Chair 3.  Paisley Light Blue Tub Chair with Ottoman 4. Prospect Sea Velvet Armchair  5. Safavieh Omni Natural Wood Arm Chair  6.  Balsam Traditional Beige Fabric Accent Chair

I’ve been browsing wall art as well and I have narrowed it down these 2 pictures (Blue Agate 1 and Blue Agate 2) for above the bed and probably this bedside lamp set.

  1. Wow! Your guest bedroom decoration ideas are great. I really inspired by you. Thanks for posting and please keep up the great job!

  2. Hi Jamie
Love the colours you have chosen for the guest room. My choices would be to go for the bedside table with the USB ports (#4) so guests can charge their mobile devices without impinging on the house charging stations, the wicker chair (#5) – picks up the pink/beige in the cushion and from the artwork adding a touch of warmth to the decor, also keeps the room from being too matchy. Plus it looks more comfortable. I like the artwork on the left..but that maybe because I can see a sort of map of Australia in the print;)
Whatever you choose, enjoy your new home.

    1. Thank you so much, I do love thee idea of the usb port! I also need new nightstands for my bedroom, but havent found the perfect set yet. (plus my current ones are functional and I have so many other needs to get to before my room) On one of my many furniture browsing trips, a salesman mentioned those attachable usb ports can be found at pc/electronics stores and added to any nightstand. And I agree, that barrel wicker chair looks comfy. I’m almost certain I am going to put it in my breakfast area.

  3. Your new home is wonderful. If you like that kind of art for your wall, have you considered trying your own acrylic fluid art for the guest bedroom? How great for your guests to have their own ensuite bath!

    1. Yes, it will be nice. I’m not much on working with paint (no talent, unless it is with a roller, lol, but my daughter is very intrested (and so talented!) We have talked about her doing some abstract type art.

  4. Oh my goodness, I feel silly that I had no idea Home Depot had such a great selection of furniture! I need to makeover my office so this is AMAZING! And I am in love with your inspiration and the headboard you picked. You seriously can’t go wrong with any of those chairs either. LOVE!

    1. Thank you so much! I love that headboard too. My hubby’s office is on our redo list as well. We had a quote for 3k from our cabinet maker, but I know I can find something something I like over on HD for at least half.
