Sewing for Back to School (plus new pattern coming soon!)

We’re officially back to school this week and I’ve been busy with a bit of sewing!
Every year, I love to get a Back to School photo session in. I generally like to work in something handmade for the photos; though I’ll admit, last year I put so much effort into the post I did for Land’s End, I just went with those pictures. (Actually, it was 2 posts, these are the rest of the pics from that session.)
I’ve been planning this simple A-line dress for my missy and finally got it sewn. Turned out perfectly! (And just in time, lol.)
It’s very similar in style to the Rainbow Sherbet Tunic I made a few years back. The neckline and sleeves are sewn a bit differently, and this time I’ll have a multi-sized pattern to share long with the tutorial.
I was rushing to get the dress done in time, so only the size 7 pattern is done. I’m still working on grading the other sizes and will need to sew a 2nd dress for the tutorial photos. (So hopefully look for the pattern by the end of next week.)
It even has pockets! (Which she loves.)
I’ve have had this chevron fabric in my stash for a while. It is some sort of polyester ponte de roma knit. I’m not thrilled with quality of the fabric, I can already tell it will pill like crazy. (Hazards of online fabric shopping, I know…) For the next dress, I plan to use a knit interlock or cotton french terry.
Perfect spot to wait for the bus!
Have a great week!
