Teacher Appreciation Gift: Picnic Quilt

As a teacher appreciation gift for my son’s 1st-grade teacher, I decided to make a quick picnic quilt using her favorite colors.
I originally planned on making it out of fat quarters the same way I made my 1st picnic quilt, but I spotted this fabric at Hancock Fabrics and thought it would be an even better choice. (Especially since she loves purple, I love that this print had so many shades of pink and purple, but didn’t seem to childish.)
It is a “cheater’s quilt”. Possibly not the best choice for a teacher, but hey- what’s life without a little irony?
It’s so pretty, by the time I was done, I wanted to keep it for myself!
It’s awfully hard to get good pictures at 6:45 on a cloudy morning. (I am loving my new camera lens, it lets in so much light!) I had intended on finishing this up early, and getting some good pictures outside, but between my procrastination and then having to go to a friend’s house to watch her kids, of course, I was late finishing the quilt.
I put it into the dryer a little past midnight and was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow…
I think it turned out great! I hope his teacher thinks so too and will actually use it. You wouldn’t even know it wasn’t a real pieced quilt unless you looked really hard. The fabric is from the M’liss collection sold at Hancock fabrics. The border and binding fabric is just some stuff I had in my stash, but it probably came from Hancock’s too. They are my closest fabric store, only 30 minutes away.
I wish I had gotten a picture of the back, oh well…
Now, I am tired… So, I have something MUCH simpler planned for my Daughter’s MDO teacher and the bus driver. I will be working on these soon.
His teacher will LOVE it and treasure it forever! As a teacher, I never received a gift that amazing from any of my students. I have a huge desire to make a quilt, but I'm waiting until I find just the right fabric.
I'd love for you to share it at my link party, Off the Hook:

That is such a pretty quilt. I actually saw some red/blue/white cheater's quilt fabric today at Spotlight – I was so tempted to buy it!!! I'm sure the teacher won't mind a bit that it is a cheater's quilt top… she will be so wrapped up in how good it looks!!! 🙂
That is an awesome teacher gift. You don't mess around. How thoughtful! It turned out great. Cracked me up with the cheater comment. Thanks for dropping off your laundry again! 🙂
That is so cute!! Love the colors! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Thursday's Temptation.
