Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom

No Sew, Two Minute Swim Suit Cover Up

It's starting to get hot around here and we've been making quite a few trips to the neighborhood pool.  I'm so happy that my kids are of an age where they can play in the pool without me having to get in with them.  (We've had some cooler than normal overnight temps and rain lately, which means the water is slightly cooler than I like)  Just because I don't have to get in the water with then, doesn't mean I'm ignoring them.  On the contrary, I am usually having to pay them multiple "visits" with behavioral "instructions."

I don't particularly like to run around the pool area in just my bathing suit and always keep a cover up handy.  I've made a few cover ups in the past. (This one and this one.  Who wants to guess my favorite color?)  I still love and use both of them.  Sometimes though, I just need to be able to quickly throw on cover up.

Enter the sarong style bathing suit cover up.  I decided I need a new one and after browsing my fabric stash, I found the perfect fabric to use in making my new cover up.  The best part is, there was no sewing involved and it took about 2 minutes to make!  (Plus it was a perfect match to my favorite suit.)

The secret to the perfect no sew sarong is in the fabric selection.  The fabric needs to be a very lightweight and slightly sheer knit fabric.  The fabric needs to be knit so the edges won't fray and come apart after multiple uses.

Supplies needed:
2 yards of thin knit fabric

The instructions are simple:
Lay your fabric out on a flat surface and cut the fabric 74 inches by 40 inches.

That's it!  The fun part is in the many ways to tie the sarong.

My favorite way to reduce the bulk of the knot (and keep it more secure) is to use one of these little sarong/tie accessories.   I bought mine many years ago while on vacation, but I found them on Amazon here.
