Easy Bubbling Cauldron Tutorial:

I’ve been so excited to get my outdoor Halloween decor up this year.

I admit I was totally ready to put everything out the day after labor day, but hubby managed to convince me to wait another couple of weeks before scaring all the children in the neighborhood with all my Halloween goodies.

I found these amazing witches online (and 30% off) at Grandin Road. They are sold out now, but based on the reviews, I think they are a Halloween decoration they might bring back next year, too.

The witches’ faces glow as well. I just love them, don’t they look fantastic!

Every Witch Needs a Bubbling Cauldron!

Grandin Road also had an amazing bubbling cauldron for sale that accompanied these witches, but it was around $90 and after a quick search on Amazon, I found some small smoke/fog bubblers sold for so much less (ridiculously less, lol) so I decided to make my own.

I just love how it looks!  The kids in the neighborhood are absolutely fascinated by the witches and the cauldron.  My office looks out over the yard and I can see the all little kids checking it out. (and even a few adults stopping to snap pictures, lol)  It is just too cute to watch.

The best part about the cauldron is the mist makers had color changing led lights, so you could really see the fog at night.  It was so cool looking, I included a little video at the bottom of the post so you could see the bubbling cauldron in action.

Supplies used to make a bubbling cauldron:

Instructions:

1. I bought 2 fog makers so I could have lots of fog, and I added them to the bottom of my cauldron.

2 Add water to the cauldron (but not too much, or it hiders the fog maker’s ability to spout the fog out of the water.)  Also, you should be aware that the mist/fog maker does splatter water around, so you would not want to put them anywhere that would get damaged by water. (like a wooden table)

3 I set the cauldron on a little crate, painted black, and put a red LED light projector under the crate (which I already had.)

And voilà!  A bubbling cauldron!

  1. Erin Stanley says:

Hi what is the light inside the cauldron? Are you using two light projectors?

    1. Jamie Sanders says:

No, the light comes from the little mist maker. If you look at the photo of the mist maker in my hand, you can see the lights. The ones I have light up purple and orange. (You can really only see the colors at night.)

  2. Stacia Dobbins says:

I wonder if you could cut off a piece of a pool noodle and put it around the mister would you be able to have more water in the cauldron and the mister would float on top as the water is used and goes down. Might not have to fill the cauldron every day!?

    1. Jamie Sanders says:

I don’t think so. The mister has to be submerged in the water. (But always worth a try. let us know if it works.)

  3. Susan Freels says:

I have a couple of those fog things and the water ran dry so quick. But if I filled it too full they wouldn’t work.

    1. Jamie Sanders says:

yes, it does need to be refilled daily.

  4. Randi Dugger says:

What size crate did you end up using?

    1. Jamie Sanders says:

That crate was 12.5 by 18″.

  5. Laura Poindexter says:

I was curious if you could tell me where you purchased the witch broom?

  6. Love this!! Great outdoor decor <3 And THANK YOU for sharing all the info on how to do it plus the links on where to find stuff ?

  7. How have all these items held up? I plan on buying all them.

  8. Do you have a link for the light projector? I think I know what you are referring to, but the link no longer works (and I bought everything else last year). 🙂

    1. Jamie Sanders says:

I’ll look for a link when I get home later tonight. But i think I bought the original one at lowes or home depot.

  9. Where did you buy the fog makers?

  10. Brooke frantz says:

I couldn’t find those witches anywhere on their website can you maybe send me a link and how much they are were… so I can look at them for next year thanks

    1. They were 89 for a set of 3. And they usually have a good sale on their Halloween stuff in August. (25 to 30% off). They look absolutely amazing in my yard.

      1. What’s the link?
