How to install wireless under cabinet lighting in 5 minutes:
We’re currently in a rental home, and even though it’s brand new, the house was built by a developer (along with several others in the neighborhood) specifically to be a rental house. What that means is the house was built with no upgrades at all. There are no ceiling fans, doorbells, or extra wiring (which means no internet, cable, or phones in any of the rooms), and the lighting package was pretty basic, too.
We really liked the neighborhood, floorplan (and price) of this house. We were happy to add a few things to make it comfortable since we planned to be here for at least a year. (Although it’s now turning into two… Here is the latest photo update of our owner/builder home build. I know I’ve been hinting about our new house a lot lately. I promise I’m going to write a post very soon detailing all the hurdles of building your own home!)
*update: Here is the post catching you up on our owner-builder home build.
The first thing we did after moving in was to add ceiling fans in every bedroom. This is Texas, and I’m a girl who just runs hot, lol. We also added closet organizers, shelving in the bathrooms and laundry, and a little flower garden in the back. (All with approval, of course.) And thank goodness for all the wireless technology available now… From doorbells to wireless DVRs to internet repeaters and cameras, we’ve been able to make ourselves quite comfy in this house!
We have a big window in the dining room (next to the kitchen) that provides lots of lovely light during the day. At night though, it’s a different story. I really wanted to add a bit more brightness to the kitchen. The project couldn’t be anything that involved electricity or tools since that type of thing is 100% out of my skill set.
The good news is there are tons of battery-powered lighting options available. You can choose from LED light bars, puck lights, or rope lights. Go as fancy as you want – installing lights that come with remotes, motion, or light sensors; or go very basic with switches or the “press on” style light.
In our case, I went with a fairly inexpensive LED Light Bar with a switch.

I wanted to make sure the light would not come loose or fall, so I knew the Gorilla® Tough & Clear Mounting Tape would be perfect for this project. (The Gorilla® Tape is good stuff. We just used the heavy duty version to securely mount a 5 pound stick vacuum to a closet wall in our camper.)
If you’ve never seen the Gorilla® Tough & Clear Mounting Tape before – this stuff is amazing! The mounting tape is a clear double-sided tape that mounts instantly, for a long-lasting, weatherproof bond. The crystal clear adhesive tape is good for indoor and outdoor use. Plus it won’t yellow over time and holds up to 15 pounds (7 pounds for squares.)
The Gorilla® Tough & Clear Mounting Tape made my little project so easy – the hardest part ended up being me trying to get the light out of the ridiculous packaging!
Installing Under Cabinet Lighting with Gorilla Mounting Tape couldn’t be easier!
To install the light bar, cut the Gorilla® Mounting Tape to size and apply it to the bottom of the light fixture…

Peel off the back side of the tape and stick it to the underside of the cabinet!

It’s that easy! For about $60 and 5 minutes, I now have lights under my kitchen cabinets!

I am going to have to do what you did with the lights under the cabinets, never have enough light in the kitchen!

We always keep Gorilla Glue on hand and it has saved the day many times. I didn’t know about the tape before. We will definitely have to check it out.
I want to get organized! Put some shelving in places like under cabinets. I want to use to to get my daughters room to be a place she loves hanging out in.
Not in the kitchen, but i want to take the bbq that I painted and restored. It was given to me when my grandfather passed. I want to glue a piece of metal that says out last name on the front of it.
I could really use this in my food pantry.
Love the setup, never thought to use it for something like this!
we are planning a total gut job of my mothers kitchen it has not been updated since 94.same cab inets since 72.we are tearing out all flooring lighting cabinets, replacing with a new hardwood flooring back splash ,all new lighting and cabinets and adding a island, she already has purchased all new stainless steel appliances ,so excited to do this project for my dear mother, her home is our family home and will continue to be for many years to come
I’ve been trying to think of a way to put lighting my cabinets and now I have a solution thanks !!!!!
I love the lighting ideas
This is genius! I have lived in many rentals but have my own place now. I got some undermount lighting from ikea, and well it was a pain to install. My second pack was missing the tiny screws needed (ok I lost them) and I cannot find the right ones, I am so getting this tape and just finally putting it up. I hate not being able to see what I am doing when I am cutting stuff or using my mini grill.
I didn’t know they had tape, but I love their glue. Looks like it worked great for your kitchen lighting.
I WOULD LOVE TO UPGRADE OUR APPLIANCES I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A STAINLESS STEEL.
Nice easy upgrade! Great idea!
This would be GREAT!!! Thanks for the chance 🙂
This would work perfect under my cabinet.
