Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom

Hamburger Bun Mini-Pizza's and Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe

I saw this idea for Hamburger Bun Pizza's a few weeks ago at Remarkable Home.  It looked so yummy, I knew my kids would love it. (and me too!)  I have used all sorts of things for pizza crust: pitas, flour and corn tortillas, English muffins, biscuits, but it never occurred to me to use Hamburger buns!  These turned out so so good!

Here is how I made the sauce and pizzas.  (Of course, you can use your own favorite pizza sauce...)

Homemade Pizza Sauce (I have succesfully canned this recipe using a water bath.  See how I did it here.)

  • 1 14 1/2 oz can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1/8 cup of water
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp of sugar
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of onion powder
  • 1 tsp of dried basil
  • 1 tsp of dried oregano
Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan or skillet and saute on medium until sauce begins to bubble.  Reduce heat to medium low and simmer about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pizza Assembly:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Gather your favorite pizza ingredients.  (I used a mixture of Mozzarella and Colby Jack cheeses, pepperoni and the hamburger buns.)
  3. Using a rolling pin, flatten out the hamburger buns as best you can, like this:

    4. Cover with sauce and toppings:

     5. Bake for about 6 to 8 minutes, until the cheese is bubbling and your crust is turning golden brown.

  1. This is a great kid-friendly recipe. My kids would love this. Please come & link up with Fun for Kids Friday

  2. look oh-so-easy-and-yummy! I'll try it! :)
