Got Trim? Easy Scrap-Busting DIY Headbands

I was organizing my mess of a craft room recently and unearthed a small collection of trim pieces and other small scraps.  Hmm...  I hate throwing anything away, so what to do?

Why, headbands of course!  Headbands are a great way to recycle and use up all the small scrap pieces laying around.

How to make these simple headbands with scraps! #scrapbusters #headbands

These little headbands are so easy to make, all you need is a bit of trim, ribbon, lace or even narrow strips of fabric and elastic of some sort.  I used both fold over elastic and regular 1/4 inch elastic.

To get the measurement needed, you can use a headband you already have or measure with a bit of yarn.  Since we are using elastic at the bottom, you will want to subtract about 1 inch from the measurement so the head band will stay in place.

There are a couple of different ways to attach the elastic, it will depend on the size of your trim/ribbon.

For the daisy trim, I folded the elastic over and encased the trim inside the elastic, then sewed over the elastic a couple of time to secure everything.

For the wide ribbon, I folded the ribbon and encased the 1/4 inch elastic.

I made this triple braided headband by braiding 1 inch strips of jersey.  To connect the braids to the elastic, I cut a small piece of the fold over elastic and sandwiched the braids between the pieces and sewed all around the smaller elastic to keep everything in place.

    1. Yes, and I'm sure they can be made with hot glue or another type of strong glue.
