Got Trim? Easy Scrap-Busting DIY Headbands

I was organizing my mess of a craft room recently and unearthed a small collection of trim pieces and other small scraps.  Hmm…  I hate throwing anything away, so what to do?

Why, headbands of course!  Headbands are a great way to recycle and use up all the small scrap pieces laying around.

These little headbands are so easy to make, all you need is a bit of trim, ribbon, lace or even narrow strips of fabric and elastic of some sort.  I used both fold over elastic and regular 1/4 inch elastic.

To get the measurement needed, you can use a headband you already have or measure with a bit of yarn.  Since we are using elastic at the bottom, you will want to subtract about 1 inch from the measurement so the head band will stay in place.

There are a couple of different ways to attach the elastic, it will depend on the size of your trim/ribbon.
For the daisy trim, I folded the elastic over and encased the trim inside the elastic, then sewed over the elastic a couple of time to secure everything.

For the wide ribbon, I folded the ribbon and encased the 1/4 inch elastic.

I made this triple braided headband by braiding 1 inch strips of jersey.  To connect the braids to the elastic, I cut a small piece of the fold over elastic and sandwiched the braids between the pieces and sewed all around the smaller elastic to keep everything in place.
