Easter Baskets

The Easter baskets we have been using for the last few years are the brightly woven baskets that are sold around Easter time. They have had a few years of rough use and are starting to fall apart. I had originally planned on making a couple of ruffle totes for Easter this year, but when at the dollar store last week I saw these little plastic buckets and decided they would be a little more practical for egg collecting. (Plus I could still add my ruffles to them…)
(Are you noticing a theme around here yet? Yep, I have a “thing” for ruffles!)
OK guys, these are really easy to make! If you don’t have an Easter basket yet, you still have time to make one of these.
See how I made the baskets after the jump:
I attached the ruffles the same way I made my ruffled Easter eggs and no sew ruffle tote. To figure out the height of each ruffle, I just used a couple of scrap pieces of fabric and played until I had the ruffle size and placement just right. Just remember, you will want at least 1/2 an inch over lap on the ruffles to cover the glue. I considered adding a strip of ribbon around the top ruffle, but my buckets have a big lip that over-hangs so I didn’t think the ribbon was necessary. (Though it probably would have been a pretty accent.)
Do you know what the “snip and rip” method is? It’s exactly what it sounds like… Cut a small snip through the selvage and RIP! If you have never done that before, you should try it… It makes a perfectly straight strip of fabric. (Plus it’s kind of fun.)
If you make a basket, please come back and share! You can add a photo to my new Flickr group or link your blog post up to my brand new Facebook page! (Have you had a chance to like my page yet?)
