Easy 3 Ingredient Beer Cheese Dip Recipe

You’ll love this creamy, cheesy flavorful dip!  It’s a nice departure from the standard queso and made with only 3 ingredients.  Even better, you can make the beer cheese dip in less than 15 minutes on the stovetop!

It might sound a little strange, but the flavor of the cheese and heartiness of the beer combine to bring out the best flavors of both ingredients and make a fabulous warm cheesy dip that’s perfect for dipping soft pretzels, crusty bread, chips and yes, even veggies!

The spice level is easily customizable. 

Like a bit of kick? Add some optional cayenne, like a milder dip, use less (or none at all).

Just give it a taste and adjust the cayenne. It is completely up to you!

Ingredients in Beer Cheese Dip

You will love how easy this dip is to make.  It uses only 3 ingredients and I bet you already have them on hand. (Ingredients at a glance, find the full printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.)

  • Beer | See info below on beer choices.
  • Cream cheese | I like full fat for this recipe. you can use lowfat, but dont use fat free cream cheese.
  • Shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack Cheese
  • optional: Cayenne pepper | I use just a pinch, but if you like alot of spice, you can use more. Just give it a taste as it is cooking.

What Beer Should I use in this Beer Cheese Dip?

The stoutness of the beer will have an effect on the final taste, so use the type of beer you like. The stronger/stouter the beer, the more beer flavor the dip will have. 

If you don’t like drinking stout/heavy/bitter beer, definitely don’t use it in this recipe.

I used Shiner Bock (which to me is not terribly stout) and even though it’s not my fave to drink, I enjoyed it in the dip! (OK, I’m a baby and when I drink beer, I only choose to drink lite tasting beers like Miller Lite or Michelob Ultra.)

How to Make Beer Cheese Dip

Making the Beer Cheese Dip is actually very easy.  (scroll to the bottom for the printable recipe card)

  1. Add Beer to the saucepan over medium heat, bring to simmer.
  2. Add cream cheese, whisking until melted and completely combined.
  3. Turn heat to low and add shredded cheese to the beer mixture, a cup at a time, stirring until the cheese melts and is smooth.
  4. Give the dip a taste and add a pinch or more of cayenne for an extra kick.
  5. Serve with soft pretzels, crusty bread, chips or veggies.

Is This Cheese Dip Low Carb?

Beer Cheese Dip is actually on the low carb side when it comes to dips, especially if you use a low carb beer as the only ingredients are Beer, cream cheese, shredded cheese and possibly a bit of cayenne. 

My aim was for this cheese dip was to be low carb and that is why it is a bit on the thinner side. (More like queso.)

If you prefer a thicker cheese dip, you can mix about two tablespoons of flour into about 1/8 cup of beer. Stir till the flour is completely dissolved and then add the flour/beer mixture to the dip right after the cheese has melted.  Continue cooking over medium heat, stirring constantly until the dip has thickened. 

What to Serve with Beer Cheese Dip

This particular Beer Cheese Dip Recipe is served warm and has the consistency of a queso dip.  It’s perfect for dipping chips, pretzels, breadsticks and yes, even celery for you dieters/low carbers out there!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Beer
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 3.5 cups shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack Cheese (set aside 1/4 cup cheese for garnish)
  • pinch (or more) of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Add Beer to saucepan over medium heat, bring to simmer.
  • Add cream cheese, whisking until melted and completely combined.
  • Turn heat to low and add shredded cheese to the beer mixture, a cup at a time, stirring until the cheese melts and is smooth.
  • Add a pinch or more of cayenne to taste.
  • Serve with soft pretzels, crusty bread, chips or veggies.  Enjoy!

Hamilton Beach Food Processor Review

One of my guilty pleasures is to kick back on the couch after the kids are in bed with a warm blanket and the remote and binge watch old Martha Stewart cooking shows.  

I just love to watch Martha on tv and daydream all of the amazing dishes and desserts I could be making.  Martha uses is top-notch equipment and I’ve been eying a professional food processor for a while.  She uses it in almost every episode making flaky crusts from scratch and chopping, dicing and shredding all of her ingredients.

Last month, Hamilton Beach reached out to ask if I wanted to try their new 14 Cup Dicing Food Processor. I immediately clicked over to check out the food processor and watch the demo video.  

When I saw them dropping whole potatoes into the processor and getting perfectly diced, square chunks of potatoes, I emailed them back as quickly as my little fingers could type, said YES, and could I please have a 2nd food processor to give away to one of my readers!

To test out the food processor, I originally wanted to make shredded hash browns from scratch, but when I went to grab a couple of potatoes from the pantry, turns out we were growing little potato plants in there!

I’d just gotten back from the store and didn’t want to make a 2nd trip for potatoes, so hash browns were out.  Luckily, block cheese had been on sale, and I’d bought over 4 pounds; so shredding all this cheese was my first priority and the cheese would be perfect for my easy 3 Ingredient Beer Cheese Dip Recipe.

I even made a short video demo- Watch the Hamilton Beach food processor in action.  (The only con I could come up with for this food processor is it IS big, so make sure you have the storage space for the processor and the accessory storage box.)

Verdict?  I love this food processor!     *Update:  after about a year, my hamilton beach food processor cracked on the handle and I couldn’t use it anymore

I probably could have contacted their customer service for a replacement, but it was around mother’s day and I asked hubby to get the Cuisinart 14 cup elite for me as a gift.  (yes, the one Martha uses, lol!) 

I had hubby buy it when it was on sale at Kohls with a coupon and quadruple kohls cash – it was a great deal!  As far as I can tell the Cuisinart does not do potatoes, as the Hamilton Beach one did, but it is very nice and seems incredibly sturdy.
