What I’ve been sewing: Skirts and a Top

I made these skirts last Spring…

The purple flower skirt was made with my simple banded skirt tutorial found here, but I have not written the instructions for the tiered skirt as of yet…

It’s been on the “list” to make a coordinating top to go with both of these skirts, because of the prints and colors made them so difficult to match.  The project kept getting bumped down my list and my daughter wasn’t wearing the skirts…

At first, I thought to make another top with my flower applique pattern.  It wasn’t very difficult and came out really cute!  (The tutorial and pattern for this flower applique can be found here.)

But then, I spotted this t-shirt embellishment tutorial from Peanut to Princess and decided this was the one I had to make a top for my daughter…  I did everything in her tutorial except I did not use the interfacing/heat n bond.  I wanted to be able to remove the applique and put it on a larger top next year.

**Update: two years later, I did remove the applique and sewed it onto another top, and she is still wearing the skirt!**

Goes great with both skirts!

She is practicing her twirling here.

Here is the tutorial I used to make the fabric covered buttons.  It was very easy and less expensive than the kits you can buy.  I used regular thread and it worked fine.
