This Baked Orange French Toast Recipe is definitely the bomb! So yummy and is so great to pop it in the oven and cook all at once. If you’ve never tried Baked French Toast, you definitely need to give this a try.
I LOVE french toast!
What I don’t love, is standing over the stove, cooking the toast a few pieces at a time…

I recently tried out a crock pot french toast recipe and what a disaster that turned out to be! Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and I should’ve known better. (French toast in the crock pot? c’mon… but the recipe photo in the magazine looked so good, I had to try it. If you follow me on Instagram, you may already have read and seen the pictures about the crock pot french toast disaster- so follow me on Instagram, wink… wink.)
Moving on from that disaster, I had another Baked French Toast recipe to try, this one included the flavors of orange and vanilla and sounded delicious… And it was.
And it was.
The french toast came out crispy and sweet with just a hint of orange and vanilla. I added the powdered sugar for the photo, but it certainly didn’t need it.
The original recipe called for day old raisin bread, though I used our regular bread since that’s what I had on hand. (I like to buy the store brand 100% whole wheat and the Walmart brand is my fave because it is sliced slightly thinner. Saves on calories. ) This would be amazing with a slightly thicker bread too.
For this recipe, I used the Davidson’s Safest Choice® Pasteurized Eggs. The Safest Choice eggs are pasteurized and are great for recipes with undercooked eggs, (I have a fear of under-cooking or serving food with raw eggs in it) but they cook up just like regular eggs and can be used in any recipe.
There’s no reason to wait for the weekend to make this recipe! It makes an excellent “breakfast for dinner meal”.
Baked Orange French Toast Recipe

This Baked Orange French Toast Recipe is definitely the bomb! So yummy and is so great to pop it in the oven and cook all at once. If you’ve never tried Baked French Toast, you definitely need to give this a try.
Ingredients
- 7 eggs
- 1/2 cup orange juice (I used the juice from 1 large orange)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 8 slices of bread
- butter
- powdered sugar (Optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375.
- In medium bowl, beat together eggs, juice, milk, sugar, zest, vanilla and nutmeg.
- Place bread in a single layer in a 13 x 9 pan. (I used to so I would not have to do 2 batches.)
- Pour egg mixture over bread. Let soak, turning once until liquid is absorbed. About 5 minutes.
- Place bread slices in a single layer on a buttered baking sheet. (I used 2 baking sheets.)
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
- Turn slices
- Continue baking 10 to 12 minutes, until browned.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve.

What happened to the butter and 1/3 cup sugar in the recipe? We just used the recipe without it
Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom says
Sorry, the sugar gets mixed in with all the other ingredients and use the butter to grease the pan.
