How to Make a 5 Minute Catnip Toy – Video
I’ve got a fun 5-minute project for you today that is perfect for using up all those bright-colored scraps in your scrap bin.
This easy 5-minute catnip toy tutorial comes with step-by-step photos and a quick 2-minute video. (The video should pop up automatically- you can just close it out if not needed.)
The toy is a perfect high satisfaction project for anyone who has cats. (High satisfaction because it is quick and easy to make and you and your cat will have fun playing together.)
Cats love catnip, and watching them play with these little toys is so much fun!
All you need to make one of these toys for your kitty is just two 3.5 inch square pieces of fabric, a few sewing supplies, and catnip!
This simple project is a great craft for:

How to Make a Catnip Toy:
Materials needed
- Fabric Scraps
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and mat
- Pinking shears
- Catnip
- Paper
- Basic Sewing supplies
Step 1: Cut fabric pieces
Use your ruler to make a 3.5-inch square template. Use the template to cut two pieces of fabric.
Step 2: Assemble Catnip Toy.
Line up the two squares of fabric, wrong sides together. Pin and sew 3/8 inch from the edge of the fabric, leaving a 2 inch opening for the catnip.
Step 3: Fill the toy with Catnip.
Use a piece of paper to make a funnel and fill the toy with catnip.
Step 4: Finish the toy.
Pin the open edges closed. Sew closed and sew around the toy a second time for extra strength.
Use your pinking shears to give the toy a decorative edge that won’t fray.
That’s it, you are done! How easy was that?
