Quick & Easy: Baked Chili Dogs
We love hot dogs around here, and there’s no better way to top a hot dog than with a generous scoop of chili and cheese.
Don’t eat bread? You can still get your Baked Chili Dog fix with my low-carb chili Dog Casserole!
We had a family cookout recently and hubby brought home huge family packs of hamburger patties, hot dogs and buns. We only used about half of the hot dogs during that cookout, but the kids love them and I didn’t worry too much. I knew they would get eaten.
I’ve got a great way to prepare chili dogs in bulk. It’s so easy, you’ll wonder, “Why didn’t I think of this before!”
How to Bake chili Dogs in the Oven:
Really! It’s as easy as:
1. slicing your dogs
2. stuffing them into the bun in a baking dish
3. top with a generous amount of chili and cheese
4. baking at 375 degrees ’til everything is hot and bubbly (8ish minutes if you warm your hot dogs up 1st!)
Recipe Tips
- I recommend heating the dogs and chili in the microwave for a minute or two before stuffing them into the buns. This will speed up the baking time, and you will only have to wait for the cheese to melt.
- Use your favorite chili, whether homemade or from a can. (My favorite canned chili is the Hormel no-bean chili, although hubby prefers Wolf brand no-bean chili.) I have a great homemade hot dog chili here.
- For the cheese, use cheddar, or a Colby jack blend. Anything works.
- For a spicy kick, sprinkle some diced onion or jalapeno over the top before baking.
- You don’t really have to slice your hot dogs in half the way I did- I just have a fear of kids choking and always do.
What to serve with Chili Dogs
- Pasta Salad – I have some great pasta salad recipes here.
- Potato Salad
- Broccoli salad
- Coleslaw
- Mac and Cheese
Enjoy your chili dog!
