Quick & Easy: Baked Chili Dogs:
We love hot dogs around here and there’s no better way to top a hot dog that with a generous scoop of chili and cheese. Don’t eat bread? You can still get your Chili Dog fix with my low carb chili Dog Casserole!
We had a family cookout recently and hubby brought home huge family packs of hamburger patties, hot dogs and buns. We only used about half of the hot dogs during that cookout, but the kids love them and I didn’t worry too much. I knew they would get eaten.
I’ve got a great way to prepare chili dogs in bulk. It’s so easy, you’ll wonder, “Why didn’t I think of this before!”
How to Bake Hot Dogs in the Oven:
Really! It’s as easy as:
1. slicing your dogs
2. stuffing them into the bun in a baking dish
3. topping with a generous amount of chili and cheese
4. baking at 375 degrees ’til everything is hot and bubbly (8ish minutes if you warm your hot dogs up 1st!)
Quick tip: I recommend heating the dogs up in the microwave for a minute or two before stuffing them into the buns. It will speed up the baking time. That way you are only waiting for the cheese to melt/
(You don’t really have to slice your hot dogs in half the way I did- I just have a fear of kids choking and always do. Anyone else do this?)
Enjoy your chili dog!

Delicious & Filling
I made this dish May 7th 2018. Luvd it. Where has this recipe been all my life.? will never make chilli dogs the regular way again.
Ms. Tina S ?
Did you just use one can of chili for this many dogs? Trying to make sure I have enough.
I just use what I have. Sometimes its half a can, other times more. I don’t remember how much I used here, but just by looking at it, I will guess 3/4 of a 15ish oz can.
I always sliced my kids hotdogs like this when they were small and now that they are grown we still do ! I always worried about them choking.
What kind of cheese did you use for this?
I used colby jack, but use whatever you like.
My daughter made this one night and I thought, ugh. But HOLY COW!!! We were scraping the dish to finish it!! What an easy, no nonsense recipe!! So dang easy and no measuring. Ingredients up to you.
LOVE this!!
I agree, lol. Something about the baking makes it extra good!
This was great!! Its one of those simple ideas your like seriously now why didn’t I think of that! We just moved to Charlotte, NC and my daughter discovered the amazing Pinky Dog from a local restaurant called Pinky’s. Basically its the same as yours but topped with pimento cheese. I tried this and she flipped. I can see this becoming a stable plus we don’t have to go eat out every time she wants one. THanks for the great idea.
Where’s the recipe??
There is no recipe.
You are basically spooning a can of chili on several hot dogs and topping them with cheese, and heating them in the oven.
I guess we want to know how long in the oven, what brand of chili you are using, and such! The more details the better. You would think most of the world aren’t dunces but we are…Thanks! I’m making this now!
10 minutes in the oven ought to do it. Brand of chili is up to you. I always prefer Hormel no beans turkey chili, but hubby likes Wolf brand, no beans…
This may be a stupid question, but do you cook the chili first before topping the dogs with it?
Definitely use pre cooked chili. If the chili is from a can and at room temp, you do not need to preheat it as the oven will heat it up nicely. If you are using leftover chili that came from the fridge, I do recommend heating it a bit before adding to the the hot dogs.

I tried this for dinner last night and the whole family loved it. I was especially surprised to see how the bread actually got toasted on the bottom – even better. This is my new way to make chili cheese dogs and it only dirties one dish!
It’s the best right? How did we not think of this before, lol!
